The Gibraltar Chronicle, from its small beginnings in 1801, has steadily grown in stature throughout the last 202 years. The Chronicle which began as an order paper through which orders were issued for the military garrison, is today a fully-fledged daily newspaper and one of the few in the world that is read so widely and regularly by almost the whole population on the Rock.
The Gibraltar Chronicles history and evolution is inextricably linked to that of Gibraltar itself. Today it plays a pivotal role, not just in the dissemination of quality and reliable local news and information, but also in the political, and therefore democratic, process in Gibraltar.

I joined the Gibraltar Chronicle in 1984 as a staff reporter, just months before the historic opening of the border with Spain. February 1985 I was retained as The Times (of London) correspondent for Gibraltar as well as stringing regularly for Reuters. My work has concentrated mostly on politics and especially on the Anglo-Spanish relations over the Rock.
Interviews include former Spanish foreign minister Fernandez Ordonez, Tristan Garel-Jones, Archie Hamilton , Foreign Secretary Douglas Hurd, Spanish Foreign Minister Abel Matutes, David Heathcoat Amory and former prime minister Sir Edward Heath and the now infamous Peter Hain interview.
Court reporting including the March 1988 IRA shooting, a Gibraltar case at the European Court of Justice in Luxembourg and criminal cases such as the extradition of murder suspect Roderick Newall.
