Costa Press Club - October Meeting
Costa Press Club members gathered for their October meeting on Thursday at El Gusto restaurant in La Cala. They heard Marion Winter talk about the latest development connected with her work at the Costa del Sol Hospital. Most members are familiar with Marion’s work running a team of 31 volunteer interpreters at the hospital. On Thursday night Marion spoke of a new charity she has started to help raise money for a radiotherapy unit at the Costa del Sol hospital. Although the hospital opened an oncology department to administer chemotherapy to cancer patients a few years ago, patients still have to go to the Carlos Haya hospital in Málaga for radiotherapy treatment. So in March 2004, Marion launched her charity, named Las Claveles, and set about improving the waiting rooms at the Carlos Haya hospital, which were in dire need of a refurbishment. Now they’re a more inviting place for cancer patients and Marion has turned her attentions towards the ultimate goal of her charity; to get a radiotherapy unit into the Costa del Sol Hospital, so that patients don’t have to travel to Málaga. Marion told Press Club members that there would be a Press Conference about the work of the charity taking place at the hospital (in the Salon de Actos) on Friday 5th November at 1100 for members of the foreign press and an Open Day on the 20th November which would include a press conference for members of the Spanish press.
