General Secretary of Málaga Wine Council highlights the campaign to have more restaurants on the Costa del Sol offer Sierras de Málaga wine.

The foreign press club on the Costa del Sol (Asociación de Prensa de la Costa del Sol - "Costa Press Club") hosted on Thursday 9 June a fascinating lecture at CIO Mijas hostelry training centre in La Cala de Mijas.

José Manuel Moreno, General Secretary of the Málaga Wine Council (Consejo Regulador DDO Vinos de Málaga, Sierras de Málaga y Pasas de Málaga), gave a stimulating talk about Málaga wine and its importance to the economy, past and future.

The guest speaker treated the audience to an entertaining description of Málaga wine from its roots to the present situation in the 21 century.

José Manuel Moreno talked with enthusiasm about wine production in Málaga, the various wine types and their distinguishing features.

Not only did he highlight the continued high quality of the traditional sweet wines, but also he emphasized how Sierras de Málaga red and white table wines can now rival others in Spain for quality and value for money.

To this end, he highlighted the Málaga Wine Council’s campaign to have more restaurants and bars feature Sierras de Málaga wine as a standard option, and for local people and tourists to ask for it by name.

Members of the Costa Press Club in attendance, representing freelance journalists, media professionals and several foreign newspaper and radio organizations recognized the role that the press must play in stimulating this important part of the local economy.

Listeners tasted different wines from Málaga during the lecture and learned to distinguish each of them though their colour, smell and taste.
